  5. Q: How do I install QEMM on my diskless workstation?
  6.  
  7. A: Run the INSTALL procedure and put the files on the network,
  8. then copy the necessary files from the network to the  startup
  9. disk, as shown below.
  10.  
  11. QEMM refers to any of the following Quarterdeck products:
  12.  
  13. QEMM-386 for 386, 386SX, and i486 compatible PC's.
  14. QEMM-50/60 for IBM PS/2 models 50, 60 and 50Z.
  15.  
  16. The QEMM Install program was written to make QEMM's installation
  17. as quick and as simple as possible. You can directly install on
  18. any drive you have EXCEPT the one housing the QEMM diskette
  19. you're running the Install from.
  20.  
  21. This means that you cannot run the Install program on a PC with
  22. only one diskette drive and install to the same drive, a problem
  23. if you are on a diskless workstation and need to install QEMM to
  24. a startup disk. Whether you are on a networked or stand alone PC,
  25. a different approach to installation is required.
  26.  
  27. 1. If your PC is on a network:
  28.  
  29. a. Put the QEMM diskette in the diskette drive (usually A:) and
  30. run INSTALL. Proceed with the installation steps.
  31.  
  32. To the question, "Where should QEMM and Manifest be installed?"
  33. answer "F:\QEMMDISK", without the quotation marks. If F: is not
  34. a network drive on your system, you must use one of your
  35. other network drives. This will install QEMM on the network.
  36.  
  37. b. Remove the QEMM diskette and put your network startup diskette
  38. in the diskette drive.
  39.  
  40. i.  Create a QEMM directory on the startup diskette and copy all
  41. of the files in F:\QEMM to the A:\QEMM directory:
  42.  
  43.            A:\>mkdir QEMM
  44.            A:\>cd \QEMM
  45.            A:\QEMM>copy F:\QEMM\*.*  *.*
  46.  
  47. Note: If there isn't enough space on the startup diskette for
  48. all the files, only copy the QEMM386.SYS file:
  49.  
  50.            A:\QEMM>copy F:\QEMM\QEMM386.SYS  *.*
  51.  
  52. ii. Use your text editor to modify the config.sys file on the
  53. startup diskette. You'll need to add the following line
  54. to the beginning of the config.sys:
  55.  
  56.           DEVICE=A:\QEMM\QEMM386.SYS
  57.  
  58. 2. If your PC is not on a network:
  59.  
  60. Install QEMM on another PC with a hard disk, then follow the
  61. above instructions for paragraph 1.b, using C instead of F for
  62. the drive letter.
  63.  
  64.     Your startup diskette is now ready to go!
  65.  
  66. Again, please note that F: refers to a typical network drive. If
  67. you normally use G: or H: or any other letter, replace F: with G:
  68. or H: or that other letter.
  69.  
  70. The same applies to the non-network installation. If you use D:
  71. or any other letter for the PC with the hard disk, replace C:
  72. with D: or that other letter.
